TSM Server 5.2.4.2 on AIX
TSM Client 5.3.0.5 on Win2003 Standard SP1 (4-way 2GHZ Xeon, 3GB ram,
gig nic)

All,

I have a continual "problem child" with a large windows fileserver.
This server has 2 user volumes, one 1.8TB and one 1.3TB, each have 2mil+
files. Incremental backups normally process 10-20k files and 300-400GB
each, alot of which are .pst files (some in the multiple gb range). We
have had to run the backups via scripts in order to get enough
concurrent threads going to finish both drives overnight.

I implemented journaling a few months ago, and it has helped lower the
elapsed time and cpu load during backups, but we cant keep the journal
running - if we get through a week without it hanging or crashing we are
doing well. In fact, we scheduled a weekly recycle of the journal
service just before the weekend backup to try to stabilize it, but
sometimes it even hangs coming down then.

Per Tivoli Support's recomendations, we have a tsmjbbd.ini that looks
like this:

[JournalSettings]
Nlsrepos=dscameng.txt
Errorlog=jbberror.log
JournalDir=e:\tsmjournal

JournalDBSize=0x00000000
NotifyFilter=0x0000015b
NotifyBufferSize=0x00A00000

We are in the process of splitting the 2 big drives into 3 smaller ones,
but I also wanted to see about installing a journal service for each
drive, to see if that improves the stability. I've read through the
manual, and at one point it references the ability to install multiple
journal services, using specific JournalPipe names, but I need some more
detail. If anyone has successfully done this, can you flesh out the
process a little more?

thanks.
