LTO drive microcode may be a factor in this.  (See IBM site Readme
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S1002360
for a summary of microcode levels.)
You didn't mention your environment, but the 1117 "errno" would be
a Windows System Error number (rather than a Unix errno). There may be
further details of value in your Windows Event Log to try to get any
specifics, as the messages don't tell you anything much beyond there
being an I/O error.
