Bill,

How has the journal been working with the 5.5 million objects? Does that
file system have much change to the files? 10%? 20%? Have you had to do
any load balancing if you have multiple volumes on that server? If so,
did the Journal handle all of the changes without becoming invalidated?

The reason why I ask is that we have Wintel File/Print cluster servers
with 5+ million objects running TSM. BA Client 5.2.x. We have upwards
of 10 - 20% rate of change on these clusters and the journal becomes
invalidated because the journal can't process the changes fast enough.
We're hoping the re-engineered 5.3 Journal will process them faster. Do
you have any of these issues?

Regards,
Brian

I've impelemented just this at a client of mine. Daily incremental with
the Journal and then a weekly IMAGE backup. They don't conflict at all.
This server currently is about 5.5 million files on 2 different drives.

*SMers,

We are currently using image backups once a week to perform the full
image, and daily normal incrementals to keep up with Jones'.
However, I'm trying to reduce the 5 hours TSM spends traversing the 5
million+ file in the filesystem each night.

I would like to assist the daily incrementals by using Journal Based
backups to track changes made to the file system, so before I start
desiging a solution I was wondering if anyone out there had a similar
situation and ended up with this solution.

Or any useful information.

Many Thanks,
Matthew
