Hello Richard!

I am a little confused about using the ping server command. I have 2
AIX servers defined to each other and I can run the ping server command
to each and it does see a response, but I have defined TSMPROD to
b390.highmark.com and vice versa. I am using the same admin id and
password on both and they reside on the same network.

Results from OS ping:
Pinging b390.highmark.com [157.154.93.185] with 32 bytes of data:

Any ideas? Thanks!

The PING SERVER command is provided for that purpose. The command uses
the user ID and password of the administrative ID that issued the
command. If the administrator is not defined on the server being pinged,
the ping fails even if the server may be running.

Outside of TSM you can use the OS ping command to test TCP/IP
connectivity.
