In my copies of the Win Admin Guide for 5.2 and 5.2.2, I don't find the
command which you quote in your first paragraph. For better or worse,
there is no Formatsize parameter for the definition of mirror copies in
5.2.x. (It's obviously a programming deficiency for the attempt to
simply ignore the bad keyword and plow ahead with the portion of the
command that it did recognize.)

You'll need to proceed with the external dsmfmt, as you surmised -
which is more awkward but healthier than the "trick" method. Or, you
could buy into TSM 5.3, where there *is* at last a Formatsize parameter
for mirror copies. :-)

Hi,

Windows admin guide 5.2 says that you can define a dbcopy or logcopy
with
"define dbcopy(logc) vol1 e:\dbvol\vola formatsize=25".
So I tested it on my 5.2.2.5 server.

TSM:SERVER1>
define logcopy E:\TSM\TSMLOG\log01.dsm E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM
formatsize=2500
ANR2017I Administrator SERVER_CONSOLE issued command: DEFINE LOGCOPY E:
\TSM\TSMLOG\log01.dsm E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM formatsize=2500
ANR9969E Unable to open volume E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM. The most
likely
reason is that another TSM server is running and has the volume
allocated.
ANR2404E DEFINE LOGCOPY: Volume E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM is not
available.
TSM:SERVER1>

Help define logcopy doesnt show any information about the formatsize
parameter? Obviously the failure is because I havent formatted a mirror
volume.
Should "define dbcopy vol1 e:\dbvol\vola formatsize=25" work?

And, will this differ in TSM?
dsmfmt -db E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM 2500
DEFINE LOGCOPY E:\TSM\TSMLOG\log01.dsm E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM

With

define logv E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM formatsize=2500
del logv E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM
DEFINE LOGCOPY E:\TSM\TSMLOG\log01.dsm E:\TSM\TSMLOG\LOG01M.DSM
Not the most practical way to do it, I know, but it works from web
gui............
