Couldn't a dsmc command be inserted into Logon scripts? Instead of controlling
via a schedule?
I'm not too clever with windows, but an awful lot of stuff seems to happen to
my windows machine when I login - scans / synchrnising / copying files etc..
cant the dsmc command be used there also?

You can't "force" the backup as you describe, but you can come close....
define a schedule for laptop users that spans a 24-hour window and have
the scheduler service running at bootup. Use SCHEDMODE POLLING. The
scheduler will try to contact the server every 20 minutes. When the user
connects to the network, sometime within the next 20 minutes the scheduler will
be able to contact the server, and if the schedule has not yet been executed,
it will run.

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.
The command line is your friend.
"Good enough" is the enemy of excellence.
