The concept of TSM is "Use it without restriction" TSM will work normally
with your NT and Novell client because it don4t use the license as a client
restriction. The IBM ideia is use as much as you wish but pay the licenses.
A lot of companies buy TSM with few licenses and after when they need backup
more clients than the number of licenses they do it, but the call IBM and
pay for it. That is a way to not impact the custumer business and be more
flexible about the use of product. Really is a new concept. Who explained
that to me was an IBM Storage Specialist.

thanks for ur response,
in that case, we use to have 20 AIX clients when we start TSM backups
and Since two years, this number raised to 30 clients . When I add new
clients in LAN, I use to register new node and made 'server license
compliance to valid'. I never called to IBM to buy extra licenses and so
far no problems from TSM or IBM.

I wonder if this works same way when I add Novell and NT clients.

I want to know how this license concept works when I able to add new
'n' number of clients.

thanks and regards

To check the license status of your server run a "audit lic", wait
until
it finishes, then run "query lic". Yes, you need to purchase licenses
for
any clients you plan to back up to TSM. It's based on CPU, and they
are
all the same, whether it's Windows or AIX. You buy a license for each
CPU
on the systems you backup. If you are running TSM Enterprise Edition,
you
need IBM part number D51MFLL which lists for just under $500 per CPU.

Hi ,
present we are taking AIX/DB2 backups to tsm and whenever I add new
AIX
client I update server license .
Soon we re planning to take NOVEL,NT client backups tsm.
Do I need to buy extra license for other client backups, NOVEL and NT?
How to check existing License term on TSM server?

thanks for ur time.
