Hi TSM'ers,
   I've 2 IBM H70, the one running under AIX 4.3.3 ML11 ("ds3") and the
other under AIX 5.1.0.0 ML 5 ("ds4", being a "standby" for the "ds3")

- Both have access to a 3584 LTO-2 library.

- Both have the same "reserve_support" -status, i.e.

        ds3# lsattr -D -l smc0 -a reserve_support
        reserve_support yes Use Reserve/Release on Open and Close True

        rzds4# lsattr -D -l smc0 -a reserve_support
        reserve_support yes Use Reserve/Release on Open and Close True

- Both show the same available tape-devices ( lsdev -Cc tape )

ds3#  lsdev -Cc tape

TAPEUTIL:

- Both can run "tapeutil" and move e.g. a tape from slot 1421 to
     import/export slot 769 using the /dev/smc0 and back from 769 --> 1421

- Furthermore I can run the
                move 1421 --> 769  on the "ds3" and
                move 769  --> 1421 on the "ds4"

- Following a "pause" to the 3584-library an
        audit library <library-name> checklabel=barcode
  puts things in sync for the TSM-server running on the "ds3"

MTLIB:

- trying to run "mtlib -l /dev/smc0 -DE" works perfect on the
        AIX-4.3.3-box, i.e.
ds3# mtlib -l /dev/smc0 -DE
 Type Mod Serial # Devnum Cuid Device VTS Library
003580  TD2  10012395  00123950    1      0
003580  TD2  10105918  00059180    2      0
003580  TD2  10015924  00159240    3      0
003580  TD2  10016634  00166340    4      0

  but produces

ds4# mtlib -l /dev/smc0 -DE
Operation Failed (errno = 22) - Invalid argument

A similar behaviour is seen for:

ds3# mtlib -l /dev/smc0 -qL

Library Data:
   operational state..........Automated Operational State
   functional state...........00
   input stations.............1
   output stations............1
   input/output status........ALL input stations empty
                              ALL output stations empty
                              I/O stations in input mode
   machine type...............3584
   sequence number............13792
   number of cells............721
   available cells............320
   subsystems.................4
   convenience capacity.......10
   accessor config............02

...

but

ds4# mtlib -l /dev/smc0 -qL
Query operation Complete - No error.

i.e NO o/p on the AIX 5.1-box

Any idea why the 2 programs behave differently with resp. to /dev/smc0 ?
