Hi Roland,
The important detail is how many days do you keep the TSM DB backups for?
You need to set your reusedelay parameter to equal this.
Because;
Reusedelay prevents tapes being used immediatley once they have become empty.
The tape is still actually useful - When a tape is 'empty' it still actually
holds all the data that was written to it. 'Empty' means TSM no-longer requires
the data that is written on the tape.
If you were to restore your DB to a backup taken 3 days ago, TSM would expect
data to be on the tapes it was on 3 days ago. - What would happen if 1 day ago,
a tape that went empty 2 days ago was used to hold new backup data? - When you
restored your DB, the data it believed was on the tape 3 days ago would have
been overwritten by new backup data. The reusedelay is used to prevent tapes
being re-used for as long as those tapes could still be required, based on how
many days worth of TSM DB backups you keep.
I hope this is clear; it can be one of those explanations that gets murkier the
more you try to clear it up.
Matt.

Hi Matt,
we make every day a Backup from our TSM DB on disk and once in a week on tape.
Is this o.k.?

Roland,
Be aware that your reusedelay parameter should be the same as the number of
days back that you keep TSM DB Backups for.
This ensures that should you need to restore to a database backup other than
the most recent, data will still be where the older DBBackup thinks it is.
Matt.

Hi,
look at storgepool definition "reusedelay" parameter
"q stg COPYPOOL f=d"
After a volumes comes empty the volume change his status to pending
if reuse delay is defined on storagepool.
You can delete the volume for reuse.
Regards
Michael

Hello,
has anybody an idea when a tape get this status:
Volume Name 000086L1
Storage Pool Name COPYPOOL
Device Class Name LTOCLASS1
Estimated Capacity (MB) 0.0
Scaled Capacity Applied -
Pct Util 0.0
Volume Status PENDING
Access READWRITE
Pct. Reclaimable Space 0.0
Scratch Volume? NO
In Error State? NO
If i update this tape, TSM will change it after a few time to pending. Many
thanks for any idea.
