Besides !! TSM also provide online image backup of systems. If you are cost
concious then go for the built in feature of TSM client for taking online
image backup.

This takes up the entire partitions of the system and keep as an image.
When you want to restore, just take your harddisk to other system, restore
image to the partition of your hard disk, activate the partition and voilla
you go !!! Everything is back there !.

Drawback inthe above approach would be:
You will have to restore the backups that you had taken after your image
backup.

In CBMR or IDR, the good point is that you don't have to worry about taking
your hdd to other system or apply backups to reach the latest backed up
point. BUT IT SIGNIFICANTLY ADDS UP TO THE COST OF YOUR PROJECT. TSM
provides things builtin, no need to purchase anything if you want open file
and online image support.

Cheers!

Hi Rick,

You were probably thinking of TSM ASR (automatic server recovery in 5.2).
As Muhammad said DR module for TSM is maily for TSM server craches.
It´s always a good idea to test third party products right
away....................................................................................

With TSM ASR, you backup your w2k system as normal.
In a recovery senario you create a ASR floppy, you also need a w2k
installation CD and a CD with the TSM client...
There is a great guide somewhere about this... "IBM Tivoli Storage Manager:
Bare Machine Recovery for Microsoft Windows 2003 and XP RP3703". There is a
guide about Cristie too.

With Veritas:
A complete Intelligent Disaster Recovery operation consists of four easy
steps:
1. Specify a location where a copy of the computer-specific disaster
recovery file will be stored.
2. Run full backups of the hard drives on the Windows system to be
protected.
3. Run the IDR Preparation Wizard to create bootable media and recovery
diskettes for each computer.
4. Recover a Windows system using the IDR Recovery Wizard and the
recovery media.
Ony full backups and create additional bootable media except for the
floppies?!?

So it depends on what you want. You can also use third party product like
CBMR
or another products that creates online images of Windows sytem drives
etc. But
that cost you additional $1000 per server.

I would preferably use V2i Protector from Powerquest/Symantec.
