I would gauge the approach according to the characteristics of the data
usage...  In a medical records environment (which this may be), data is
typically kept around for a long time due to a combination of patient
account longevity and legal requirements, but there is little access to
the old data.  In such a scenario, it may be feasible to use TSM Archive
with DELetefiles to secure the data in TSM storage - as Backup would - but
wholly eliminate TSM examination of it again.  Such an approach has to be
tempered by the type of application which may need to get at the data in
the future, but in many cases a retrieval wrapper can be set up to get it
back for the application.  Non-TSM sysadmins are familiar with file systems
and think in terms of traditional backups, so posing TSM's other choices
is good for at least their awareness.
