I'm in the process of getting an new 3584 with LTO2 drives approved; our
existing library is 3584/LTO1 SCSI. My plan is to run the two in
parallel while debugging the new library/drives, and then drop the old
unit off the configuration.

But I plan on keeping about half the LTO1 tapes, for use in off-site
copy pools. I'm planning on marking all the LTO2 tapes as 'scratch' and
assigning the LTO1 tapes explicitly to selected pools that are not
allowed to use scratch tapes. We have an LTO1 library in our D/R hotsite
contract and don't want to renegotiate half-way into the contract.

1) Is this workable (assuming I get enough tapes in each of the copy
pools)?
2) Will this work on TSM 5.1.x (currently on 5.1.6.3, need to see if it
supports LTO2 yet)

TIA
