A very important question you need to answer is:
Are you are running Data Protection for SQL
backups using multiple stripes?
If you are, then you need to keep the data on separate tapes.
That is because during restore, you will also be using
striping and therefore those tapes will be mounted at
the same time and data will be read from those tapes
simultaneously.
The Data Protection for SQL User's Guide discusses
this under sections called "Data Striping Values"
and "Using Collocation".
