After running the restore vol it fails due to media read error on one of the
volumes.
I have started to run the audit vol *** fix=yes to see if it resolves this
problem with the original volume but there is an error messages that comes
up on every file it is reading, message is as follows:
ANR2308W: Audit Volume marking damaged file as damaged on volume.
ANR2335W: Audit Volume has encountered an I/O error for volume

Both explanations for the error messages above state:
"If this file belongs to an aggregate, the entire aggregate is marked
damaged, and this message will be issued for every file in the aggregate."

What is an aggregate?
How do you know if the file belongs to an aggregate?
Is their any point in letting the audit complete if all files belong to an
aggregate?

Thanks:/

If a copy of the same storage pool is maintained , best bet is to do a
restore volume. If you don't have the copy tapes within the Tape Library, you
could atleast get the media number
thats required for the restore. After having checked in the same you could
try restore vol.

Cheers!!

Thanks for reply,

Yes, tape is mountable. I ran an audit vol **** fix=no and it returned with
a large number of damaged files.
The volume is 2.8% full, read only state. There are 5 more tapes in the
library with this problem all Maxell tapes?
What is the standard procedure to resolve this issue? audit, restore or
migrate?
Thanks.

Can the tape be mounted? If not au audit is not going to help much...

I prefer to run an audit with fix=no first to see what the problems are
before trying to fix them, bu that would take some time. As for how long
it will take, it depends on the drive, connection, server, DB, log, data
on the tape in question and lots of other factors! I would expect it to
take many hours if there are a lot of read errors. (4+ hrs IMHO).

Hi,

Multiple media errors are occurring on Maxell ULTRIUM LTO's. I have tried
to
migrate and restore data from media with read/write errors and it fails
due
to hardware and media mount error.

Would the next step be to try and "audit vol ****** fix=yes"? If so, how
long would this run for?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Regards,
Rachel
