This always works for me:
nohup dsmc sched 2>&1 >/dev/null </dev/null &

I've found the following to work pretty well:
(dsmc sched 2>&1 >/dev/null &)
The parenthesis drop it into a sub-shell and cleanly detaches from your
current session.
