The return codes from dsmc are the same as those reported via the
scheduler. See the client manual chapter on "Automating tasks" for a
discussion of the return codes (I'm talking about version 5.1 and up).

it's still there in 5, if we're talking about the same thing here... On
the
server side there already is a return code for this it's return code: "4".
If you type in: "q event * * node=node_name f=d" you will see it under
RESUlT. Now if your kicking it off from dsmc which I think u are that
maybe
a different error. I'm sure it's recorded in the "dsmerror.log" so maybe a
post script to go out and look to see if any messages like "object failed"
or something exist in that file, like a simple unix shell script if
statement or something then if it does then do a "exit 11" but u can only
use post schedscript option if it's scheduled so maybe an alias for dsmc
in
ur environment where dsmc is really equal to dsmc;post_script. Just some
ideas. You'll have more flexibility if u schedule it via the tsm central
scheduler though. thanks!.

We've seen this problem go away once we started using the 5.1.# client
code.

Subject: DSMC Exit Code Question

I had an intersting question posed to me today and I don't have an
answer. This person is checking the return code on the dsmc command to
determine if the backup needs to be looked at or not. What he is coming
across is files that are in the directory when the directory is scanned,
but gone when the backup tries to back the file up. We did figure out
we could probably exclude the files, but what we would like is for TSM
not to give a non-zero return code what a file is not found. Thanks for
any input into this matter.
