Hi Charles,

what Samuel ment was the version of your OS/2 system, not the version of
the TSM client.

If your'e using an OS/2 version older than OS/2 Warp v3 (e.g. v2.1 or
v2.11) then the OS2.INI and the OS2SYS.INI are locked. To make the OS/2 WPS
configuration more stable in case of a crash (the ini files often got
corrupted) IBM changed this behaviour with OS/2 Warp v3. Now the changes
are recorded in memory and flushed to the ini files just every 100 changes
or once a minute if I remember correctly. So it should be no problem for
the TSM client to back up the OS2.INI and the OS2SYS.INI as long as there
is no heavy activity going on on that system during backup.

Look at the dsmsched.log and the dsmerror.log files and see if the files
are skipped because the changed or if the access is denied (because the OS
just did an update to that files). If you can't solve your problem define a
second schedule to make an selective backup for that files.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Met vriendelijke groeten,
With best regards,
Bien amicalement,

CU/2,
                Dirk Billerbeck

The OS/2 Client version is 3.7.2.7 (Includes latest FixPack
We are not seeing the files as being skipped, they just don't get backed
up. The OS2 Client reports that there's no change to the file .ini and
.sys files. I am copying the OS2 admin on this mail as well to keep him
informed.

Joe Niffen, any comments?

Than you Samuel, we appriciate your input.

Regards,

Charles

In older versions of OS/2 these files were locked by the Operating system
and could not be backed up. If I remember right OS/2 Warp Connect at later
service paks and OS/2 Warp 4 actually uses os2.!!! and OS2SYS.!!!! as their
working files. The data in these files was copied to the .ini files every
few minutes or so. What version of OS/2 is the client? Are you seeing the
files skipped in the dsmerror.log ?

We have an OS2 Backup Client with TSM 3.7.2.7 Client Backing up to a AIX
4.3.3 TSM 5.1.5 Server and all seems well except that two files that change
daily OS2.INI and OS2SYS.INI Details Below) but are not getting backed up
daily. The CopyGroup is set to Dynamic, we are saving 180 Versions Exist
and Deleted the initial backup was on 4/1/2003.

Is there something I'm missing? Even if the File is in use shouldn't
Dynamic pick it up? I've looked at the Include / Exclude and it appears to
be ok these files are in the c:\os2 dir which is not being excluded.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know...

Thank You!!!
