A few methods:

1) From the Admin CLI, you can use QUERY FILESPACE to see the maximum
drive capacity and percent utilization of the drive you are restoring;
Multiply capacity by percent utilization to find out how much of the drive
is actually used. If you have excluded files from backup, the amount of
data to restore will be somewhat less. If you excluded a lot of files,
then the estimate will be less reliable.

2) From the client CLI, do something like this:

   dsmc q ba c:\ -su=y > qba.txt

where "c:\" is the file specification you wish to restore. When the
command completes, open up the qba.txt file in a text editor and count the
total number of lines (or use some other line-counting tool). That will
give you an idea of the number of files.

3) From the client GUI, select the files you wish to restore, then press
the "Estimate" button. That will give you a file count and size.

Depending on the amount of data, methods #2 and #3 may take a little
while. If you're just looking for a size estimate (in MB, GB, or
whatever), then method #1 will probably give you a good approximation
(again, depends on how much data is excluded).

Andy

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.
The command line is your friend.
"Good enough" is the enemy of excellence.

I'm restoring all of the data on a drive. Is there a quick way to
determine how much data I will be restoring?
