I would like to ask the group a question. Do any of you
have thoughts about the "maturity" of the product, as it
stands now? My boss is questioning whether we should
hold at 4.2.<whatever> on our four servers, or go ahead
and upgrade to the 5.1.x.y available now. My experience
has been that it is best to wait until Tivoli/IBM have used
enough of us as "Beta Testers" to ensure a robust product.
(They are certainly not the only ones!)
Configurations:
(1) Server is Sun UE450 running Solaris 8; clients are IRIX
5.3-6.5.18, SunOS 4.<something>, Solaris 2.5.1-9, RedHat
Linux 7.1, Win2K, and NT4.0SP6.
(2) Server is Sun UE450 running Solaris 7; clients are IRIX
6.3-6.5.x, Solaris 7-8, Win2K, and NT4.0SP6.
(3) Server is Sun UE450 running Solaris 8; clients are IRIX
6.5.x and NT4.0SP6.
(4) Server is IBM M-80 running AIX 5L 5.1; clients are IRIX
6.5.x, AIX 5L 5.1, RedHat Linux 7.2, Solaris 7-8, Win2K,
and NT4.0SP6.
(5) All libraries are IBM 3494, all tape drives are IBM 3590-E1A.

If you think this discussion deserves a thread, please respond
to group; otherwise, please respond personally.

Thank you,

Dennis Glover
