Hi all,

I am posting here to call attention to APAR IC34296 which
affects backup of the system objects on Windows 2000 and
XP. Patches for the 4.2.2 and 5.1.1 clients are discussed
in the "TEMPORARY FIX" section of the APAR text:

========================= BEGIN =========================
ABSTRACT:
TSM CLIENT DOES NOT BACK UP BOOT.INI, NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM DURING
BACKUP OF SYSTEM OBJECTS.

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
Starting with the 4.2.2.0 client, through the 5.1.1.0 client,
TSM does not back up the boot.ini, NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM files
during the backup of either systemobjects or sysfiles.

The TSM client does not report any errors on these files either
on the console or the errorlog.

This problem can occur if the client is installed on the same
drive as the boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com files (usually
C:). You may not see this problem if the client is installed on
a different drive than these files.

INITIAL IMPACT: MEDIUM

LOCAL FIX:
Contact IBM support for verification of the problem and
temporary work around.

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: TSM does not backup boot files *
* during the backup of either of *
*                      systemobjects or sysfiles.              *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: Apply fixing PTF when available. This *
* problem is currently projected to be fixed *
* in PTF levels 4.2.3 and 5.1.5. Note that *
* this is subject to change at the discretion *
*                 of IBM.                                      *
****************************************************************

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Fixed function that determines the boot path so that it always
locates the boot files correctly.

TEMPORARY FIX: Patch levels 4.2.2.8 and 5.1.1.3 are currently
available for 32-bit clients on the FTP site
ftp.software.ibm.com. Go to directory
storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/client. From there,
go to subdirectory v4r2/Windows/WinNT/v422 for the 4.2.2.8
patch (get the files whose names begin with IP22504_08), or
v5r1/Windows/WinNT/v511 for the 5.1.1.3 patch (get the files
whose names begin with IP22519_03).

Fixes for the 64-bit client will be available with the official
PTFs.
