Okay,,, this is good -- you might want to add the cost of the "workload"
generated on the TSM server, as well (derived from "summary" table,
reconciled with accounting records, from # Kbytes transferred
(backup/archive), # objects inserted, and same data for volume of
restore/retrieve activity. Still simple, but adds abit more granularity for
the client's burden on TSM & network -- gets them to think about # versions
and retention, as well as # GB of client data they're protecting.

What I like is just do it on occupancy.
Divide GB of occupancy into your cost or desired ROI, and you have a number.
In any case, run it through your reasonableness filter before sending out
bills based on it.
At a business we were a profit center and did
backups based on GB stored. But the number had to be cheaper than the
customers showing up with a DLT and changing their own tapes, plus do some
extra added value for it.
Does that help?

Subject: Possible Bill-Back methods
Does anyone have methods defined for bill-back of GB used on TSM?
Floor space $$ + Hardware Maint $$ + Labor $$ + Software $$ + whatever
divided by something = billback
