Rikk,

If I understand your question well you asking how to load tapes not
through entry/exit slots but by opening library and putting the tapes
there, right?
Try to use 'checki libv <neo_lib> search=yes checkl=bar stat=scr' followed
by 'checki libv <neo_lib> search=yes checkl=bar stat=pri'. Having in mind
we are talking about DR site (all tapes contain data) only the second
checkin is necessary. The key points are two:
search=yes instead of search=bulk - informs TSM to look for tapes inside
the lib instead of E/E slots
stat=pri - TSM refuses to checkin tapes defined as volumes and ones used
for DB backups, backupsets, etc. (listed in volhist). Thus you have to
check them in as privates not as scratches. If some tapes are full and
some are empty the process must be checkin the scratches (the used ones
will refuse to be checked in) and the checkin the rest as private. If all
are full checkin all as private.
Other approach might be 'checkin stat=pri' followed by 'audit libr'. I
cannot say is this supported or just a side functionality but on audit
private volumes not used by TSM become scratches (at least on TSM 4.2.1)
I hope this helps.

Think you got the wrong idea there, this is not normal day to day use I'm
talking about as the message below indicates I'm trying to DR our system.
I can quite happily load all the tapes through the 'mail slots' but it's
incredibly slow with 130 tapes. What I want to do is fill the library in
bulk then do a library audit so TSM now knows what is in the library.

I may have deeper problems though as I found out yesterday that it won't
even label tapes or any other operation on tapes that use the drives.
