If you have excludes of large files actual usage will be less. If you have
client compression usage might be several times less. And you have to
count that an empty filesystem is already few percent used (i-nodes space)
so calculations are again shifted.

Just a thought, wouldn't it be easier to look on
the node itself how much data the disks hold?
Should be equal to the amount of active data
on tape, more or less.
