I've done that before many times, it works fine.
I think it's a good solution for the situation you describe - if you have
problems with the log filling up, set up the DBBACKUP trigger to fire an
INCREMENTAL, instead of a full, to disk instead of tape.
Then write your FULL to tape when you have time.
