Hi

Easiest way to accomplish what you're looking for is(I guess) using
clustering in Mutual Take over mode.

This way, you have two cluster nodes, each running a TSM server instance,
and each being a Standby-node for eachother. In case of a disaster, both
instances would be running on the same clusternode. Then, you only have to
rebuild the cluster node, and let it rejoin the cluster, and it's all up
and running again.

However, in this case, you'll have to alter the TCPPORT and HTTPORT for
one of the instances, as two instances with the same IP port cannot run on
the same machine. For example:

TSM Cluster Node 1 - HTTPPORT 1580 TCPPORT 1500 running TSM instance
TSMSERVER1
TSM Cluster Node 2 - HTTPPORT 1582 TCPPORT 1502 running TSM instance
TSMSERVER2

If TSM Cluster Node 1 was to go down, it would look like this:

TSM Cluster Node 1 - DOWN
TSM Cluster Node 2 - HTTPPORT 1580 TCPPORT 1500 running TSM instance
TSMSERVER1
HTTPPORT 1582 TCPPORT 1502 running TSM instance
TSMSERVER2

I recently configured a fail-over cluster using IBM P-Series 660 machines,
and HACMP. Worked perfectly. Doing a halt on the TSM server, moves the
resource group to the standby node. We we're using mirrored HDS
fibre-attached disks(two HDS 9960 in separate locations), and six
9310(three in each location) with 8 STK9840B drives and one 3494 with 4
3590E drives.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

What if I want a two active tsm servers running on one machine and in two
locations, and also share the library's? In that way you can do a
disaster
recovery every day on each site and have a sort of hot-standy TSM solution
for your enviorment. Anyone did this on AIX so far with succes? On windows
works easy with server1 and so on.... AIX must have a lot of settings for
the second server instance.

thanks

Peter
