At this point in time, you can order using the old pricing method or the
new "per processor" method. The per processor charge applies to systems
that will run the TSM Server code and what are called "Managed Systems"
which are systems that are providing some type of "Server" services (i.e.
fileserver, etc..), desktops and laptops are "Clients" and you pay a flat
fee for their licenses, not per processor.

If you are looking to renew your licenses and would like a pricing
comparison using the old method and the new method, I can do that. You do
have the option to purchase TSM software using the old method OR the new
method for a couple more weeks.

Hope this helps.

I got spoken answer from IBM rep, that till end of May you can still order
TMPs (VBP based) licenses.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere (Maybe on this list?) that Tivoli is
still
wrestling with that question.

I may be wrong, but what I'm seeing so far leads me to believe that if we
were to go out and license TSM for our shop NOW, without benefit of
upgrades
and Passport Advantage -- we wouldn't be able to cost-justify it. Even if
there were NO alternative. I won't know for sure until I see some
intelligible documentation on the pricing (I should point out that I have
yet to see anything *useable* on TSM pricing for the 4.x series beside
what
you provided a while back . . . certainly nothing from Tivoli or IBM).

"For IBM Tivoli products, processors installed in servers require
licensing."

"A server is a computer system that provides services to one or more
clients
and/or other devices over a network. Examples include, but are not
limited
to, file servers, print servers, mail servers, database servers,
application
servers, and Web servers."

So the NT clients would not require Processor licenses (unless they are
acting as a "Server"!) - but would require a Client license ("A client is
a
computer system or process that requests a service of another computer
system that is typically referred to as a server.")

AFAIK, you count all processors, TSM server and TSM clients. If you have
a 2-processor Unix server and 10 1-processor NT clients, you have 12
processors. You them multiple by the right $ amount depending on whether
you are "regular" or "enterprise edition".
