I have seen this kind of behavior with two different causes. One of the
possibilities was already noted by another respondant: the account running
the restores is not root and not the owner of the files. The other
possibility is that the backups are inactive. Inactive backups are either
backups of files that have since been deleted from the host or backups of
older versions of files that have since been updated. On the command line
one has to specify the '-inactive' option to make inactive backups appear.
As nearly as I can recall, the analogous procedure for the GUI is to pull
down the 'View' menu and check the 'Display active and inactive files'
box.
