TSM has a provision for an "overflo" location. Check the help for "move
media" and you will note that you can move full tapes into this overflo
location and they are marked unavailable. The tapes in the overflo are
placed in a 'mountablenotinlib' state. TSM will squawk at you when it needs
one of these tapes replaced in the library for reclamation purposes or to
do a backup. You have 2 hours to do so and if you don't get to it, the tape
is marked "unavailable" and you will need to check it in at the earliest
possible time and then update that volume to "readwrite" access. I have
about 400 tapes in my 300 slot libarary by using the overflo facility. As
for more scratch tapes... if you are happy with your current expiration and
reclamation set up, then you will need to buy some more tapes...

Subject: library and tapes full ! ?

I have a 100 tape library except for 2 tapes they are all listed as full!
what I need to know is how to get scratch tapes in.
evidently there has been no db backups to tape! of course it doesn't help
where I need to keep available all the exchange backups! I was think of
trying to archive the past data? is this a possibility?

thanks
