Actually, the only term which is confusing is MegaByte.
Only MegaByte was redefined by disk-manufacturers to 1e6 bytes.
Now that GigaBytes are common they are actually defined as 1024 MegaBytes.
(However 1024 ``bad'' megabytes)
1 kilobyte is ALWAYS 1024 bytes.
