One possble way is to use the "Volume Location" parameter that can
be updated with UPDATE VOLUME. This can be a problem though if
you will eventually have more onsite data tapes than will fit in library.
The MOVE MEDIA command that you use to move tapes out of library
to overflow loication uses this field, don't know if anything else uses it.
Simplest way though would be to use Excel Spreadsheet with slot numbers
and the tape that is in that location at vault. Makes it easy to update
and see what slots are empty.
BTW: I didn't look at your email address at first. Your boss, Alan
Greenspan puts millions/billions of dollars into the economy each week!
See if he will give you a few thousand to contract with a serious
vault vendor. (Couldn't resist, sorry if that's a sore subject!)

We will be assigned a range of slots. We tell them what tapes to put in
what slots, so it's under our control -- but we also have to keep track.
