Thanks Hoa,

isn't the Device Specific (FW) the microcode for the DRIVE and not for the
SCSI adapter?? Or is it actually the firmware level for the SCSI adapter?

thanks for your help!

fyi-- when I do an lscfg -vl scsi#

I don't get any firmware or microcode level info. After checking some
sources (an IBM Advanced Technical Expert and a CE), we *think* that this
won't be displayed with a PCI system (winterhawk II)-- just on MCA
systems. The supposition we are going on is that the firmware for the PCI
SCSI adapter and the PCI bus is updated with the system firmware.

Lisa,

Try this command:
lscfg -vl rmt_ then look at "Device Specific.(FW)"
example:
root@tsmsrv04>lscfg -vl rmt1
  DEVICE LOCATION DESCRIPTION

rmt1 10-58-00-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium
                                      Changer

        Manufacturer................IBM
        Machine Type and Model......03590B1A
        Serial Number...............000000027058
        Device Specific.(FW)........A50F !!!!!!!
        Loadable Microcode Level....A0B00E22

Hoa.
