Actually, I thought you could. You can go into the LCD panel to check a
cleaning tape in (pg 129 of the B-series Subsystem Operator Guide),
setting Automatic cleaning (p130) and the reserved slot for the cleaning
tape is stored in the first available stoage-only slot (SCSI element 46 or
higher) on page 16 In the Magstar MP 3575 Tabe Library Dataserver Hardware
Reference. In appendix D, it shows all the different library
configurations (L12, L18, etc and a cross-reference to the SCSI element
addresses)

good luck!

In your Operator Guide for the 3575 library, there are instructions
for inserting a Cleaning Cartridge. Then on the LCD panel of the
3575 you can set AUTOCLEAN ON so the 3575 will clean drives
automatically when they request it. You also have the option on
the LCD panel to manually clean a drive if needed.

You cannot clean drives on this library (and some others) through
*SM, automatically or manually. However suggest check the
cleaning tape in through *SM as CLEANER so *SM knows about
the tape (that is, a count of tapes you make comes out correct).
The 3575 does not have a "special slot" for the tape that *SM
does not know about.
