I use DIRMC via CLOPTSets for Windows & AIX clients; one server with about
20-30 clients is using abit over 400 MB. We started with 50 MB, and that's
probably okay, given the ultimate solution -- I am set at 1.3 GB with 34%
utilization... my DIR_FILE has grown to just under 2.0 GB (can you believe
there are that many directories being thrown around??? With only 3 million
files/objects in backup storage, it's nearly half the size of the TSM server
database... yikes!!!)

Do note that offsite (ie, copypool) reclamation can be a performance
nightmare; it's been discussed on this list -- the "fix" is to use a SEQ
device class (on disk) we call ours DIR_FILE, which is the nextstg for
DISK_DIRS. Daily disk migration now includes this one, so now large numbers
of directory restores *and* copy pool reclamation both run quite fast with
minimal tape mounts.
