Absolutely correct. The dsmaccnt.log is a comma delimited flat file which is
intended to be imported into an Excel spread sheet. Since there are 29 fields,
most of which are figures, it is easier to import it into the spread sheet to do
any in depth analysis. It can be viewed in flat file form to see if a scheduled
operation was sucsessful as field 11 will be a one and a failed session will be
a 0 (zero) and you can see if an archive or backup actually backed up what you
would expect by looking at the fields which contain the #of backed up or
archived objects and their size...

The TSM accounting records.
If you turn accounting on, TSM will cut one record for each session the
client starts.

The record gives you a count of the "objects" restored and the KB restored
during the session. "Objects" include files+directories+any other things
TSM considers "objects", which makes it a little difficult to come up with
an exact file count, but you get a good idea of who is doing what. Just
knowing the number of sessions that do restores may be all you need to find
out.

The accounting record fields are described in the admin guide.
