Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply. We are not using the W2K Group Policy to
install. Our objective is to create an installer which includes some
customizations for Cornell that we can provide to our campus users via our
web site. Since our users run the full range of technical expertise, we
strive to provide something that is as simple as possible to use.

So, we download the executable from Tivoli, extract its files, add our
custom pieces (dsm.opt, readme with local information, and the customc.ini)
in the ...\config folder, and package all this back up into a slick little
executable again. In the past, we have used EXE Builder to do this, but
discovered with v4.1.2 that it does not work with long file names. So we
are now trying Packager for the Web, which seems to be running well.

The extraction from our executable seems to work fine, and the install
process seems to run fine as well (except that the TSM README can not be
found for viewing). When the installation finishes, I check to see that
the dsm.opt file has been moved to the baclient folder, and it has
not. Similarly, nothing has been done with the Cornell README.

We also tested this without the extra packaging piece. We downloaded the
executable from Tivoli, extracted its files, put the custom pieces into the
...\config folder, and let the installer run from there. It found its own
README this time, but still did not put the dsm.opt file in the baclient
folder. (The Cornell README is something we'd like to eventually figure
out too, but it's minor in comparison to the custom dsm.opt file.)

We've tested on both a W2K Professional and an NT 4.0 Workstation OS. In
all cases, these were clean installs. We either use Partition Magic to
restore the OS to an original untouched (by TSM) state, or we do a full
uninstall and reboot between tests.

Thank you in advance for any help and/or suggestions!

If you are using W2K Group Policy to install the client (again on a "clean"
server), I have found that it does not use the custom dsm.opt file. Ditto
if you just run "Tivoli Storage Manager Client.msi".

How were you installing the client?

Subject: Custom dsm.opt in Client v4.1.2

Gentle Greetings,

Has anyone yet succeeded in installing a predefined (custom) dsm.opt file
with TSM client version 4.1.2? So far all of our attempts have
failed... the installer seems to ignore anything I put in the ...\config
folder.

I have read and tried to follow the instructions in the README that came
with 4.1.2, though I have some concern that the path referenced there does
not reflect the path to the config folder after extracting the files from
the 4.1.2 installer exe. It looks more like the path that was used in
previous versions. So I wonder if this process works in this version.

Thank you in advance for any help, suggestions, and/or shared experiences.

Jennifer
