Thanks for the Response Jim:

First, support for inactive copies of system objects will be greatly
appreciated when/if it is made available. (It is very hard to explain to
users that they can only restore the latest versions of some files - in this
case some very important ones! It is also hard to explain to them that our
Enterprise Backup Solution will not support that need, and they will have to
rely on MS Backup for that suppport.)

TSM provides backups and archives for specific purposes. I want to use an
Archive for W2K System Objects to maintain those file in a particular state
for a set period of time. Backup does not provide this ability - older
versions are deleted as newer versions are made.

The Novell Client allows you to archive the NDS database - why was that
feature put there?

Anyways, AD is going to become a very important database - it will store all
kinds of user information. I want to archive this database for the same
reason that anyone else wants to archive user data!

Some of our users, also use archives to create a "snapshot dump" of their
system. Again they want to keep this separate from the normal backups. We
did this for all systems for Y2K. This allows us, if ever needed to go back
to that archive after the files would have expired in the backups.

Because of the way the registry and event logs were handled in NT4, we could
archive them by first backing them up which creates a copy on the local
drive, then simply archive those files.

I don't understand why Tivoli is making the decision for their customers on
what files can be archived and what files cannot.

The bottom line is that I am just trying to use the Archive function for
what the documentation says it is there for.
