Why do you do a checkin search=yes instead of a checkin on a specific vol?

In my customer they also move DB backup tape to offsite everyday.
We expire the cartridges for db backup after 7 days.
We have created an script with a query volhistory to know the label of the
cartridge to return to the library.
This is important because once you delete a version from volhistory, there
is no reference to that cartridge anywhere in TSM data base.
Once it is in the library, is a 3494, we do a del volhistory to make the
cartridge scratch, and a checkin with search=yes
