Hello,

TSM 4.1 supports install of the ODBC driver on non-English systems,
although the driver's messages are still English only (they have not
yet been translated).

You can find the driver setup package at the usual download site
with the TSM 4.1 Windows client package. For TSM 4.1, the ODBC
driver is no longer part of the regular backup-archive client; it is
a separate, stand-alone setup package.

Please be sure to note the following:

1) Read ODBCINST.TXT *carefully*, as it includes some extra steps
you need to follow to install on a non-English system. The
important point is that you will need to replace the English
version of the MDAC installer with the German version, available
on the Microsoft web site (ODBCINST.TXT tells you how to find
   it).

2) You need to be logged in as a local administrator to perform the
   setup.

3) If during the setup you receive a message saying you are not an
administrator, you may be seeing the effects of APAR IC27780. I
would not expect this problem to occur on Windows 2000, but just
the same, I've included the APAR text below.

Regards,

Andy

========================= BEGIN APAR TEXT =========================
When running the setup.exe program for the TSM 4.1 ODBC Driver
on a German Windows system, the setup issues two pop-up
messages, then stops. The messages are:

   1) You must be an administrator to install this software

   2) There was an error while installing Microsoft Windows
      Installer

In addtion, the setup.exe process will remain running. The task
manager must be used to end setup.exe.

This problem occurs because the setup.exe program attempts to
verify that the user account belongs to the Administrators
group. On a German system, the Administrators account is called
"Administratoren". When the program looks for "Administrators",
it doesn't find it, so it fails.

It should be noted that this problem can occur on other language
versions of Windows besides German if the Administrators group
has a name other than "Administrators".
LOCAL FIX:
Manually install the Microsoft Windows Installer and the ODBC
driver as follows:

1) Switch into the tsmcli\win32\odbc\disk1\WinNT directory.

From there, run InstMsi.exe. You may be prompted to reboot,
in which case you must reboot.

2) Switch into the tsmcli\win32\odbc\disk1 directory. From
   there, run the following command:

msiexec /i "tivoli storage manager odbc driver.msi"

This will start the setup for the TSM ODBC driver. Follow the
   prompts to complete the installation.

"The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked."

Hi all,
i have a big need to install ODBC for TSM on a GERMAN-Win2000 System ! (As i
did before with ADSM 3.1 !!)
Using CUSTOM Installation does not show ODBC to select !
I also heard the rumor, that this is (hopefully currently only) not
possible. If so, when will it be possible ?

To those of TIVOLI who are listening to this list: Do you realy think only
US guys want to use ODBC ? Make ODBC available for non US Languages as soon
as possible !
