I was wondering if anyone else has seen this
I am running TSM 3.7 on the a Windows NT 4.0 Box connected to an Exabyte
X200 Tape library (Purchased December 1999) with 4 Mamoth tape drives
(Mamoth II's coming soon). I used to get the following I/O error every once
and a while, resulting in a tape not being ejected from the drive, but now
I am getting them every few days. The tape drive has an orange light
flashing. The vendor indicated if this happens cycle the power on the X200
and restart my server. When I do this the tape is poped out and is ok for
use again (Only time this does not apply is when the tape has been is in
the process of being turned in to a scratch volume as in the logs below - I
had to do that manually). All the drives on this unit have gotten the error
and as a result I have had 2 of the 4 drives replaced. No tapes have been
damaged yet. The X200 unit is still under warranty so I have had the vendor
in and they have indicated that there may be a problem with the cables on
the back of the tape library.
This problem so far always occurs when the library is attempting to eject
the tape from the drive.
This is getting to the point where the problem is anoying and starting to
interfere with TSM. One night I had the one drive turned off in TSM (It was
traping a tape each night) and the other 2 original drives each trapped a
tape. This caused the Copy Storage Pool process to fail because there were
no free drives.
Has anybod else seen this with the X200 tape library?
