HI
I posted the problem below on the mailing list last week and got a lot
of replies. Thank you.
None of it helped though.
I finally managed to solve the problem.
The library was originally set up as follows: LIB3575,SCSI,/dev/smc0
(also tried /dev/rmt2.smc)
According to all the publications I read, as well as some previous
postings on this newsgroup this was the way to set it up.....
I started smitty -> ADSM Devices -> Library/MediumChanger -> Add a
Library/MediumChanger and configured the /dev/lb0 device.
Inside ADSM I changed the library device to point to /dev/lb0 and it
WORKED!
I can now check in tapes using the barcode scanner.
I feel sorry for the guys that initially set up this library and checked
in 240 tapes (2 libraries) manually.
Cheers
Francois
Hi
When trying to check in new tapes into the library through ADSM we get

We are using IBM c-format media.
We are using IBM c-format media.
AIX level: 4.3.3.0 - 02
ADSM level: adsm.server.rte 3.1.2.50
adsm.devices.rte 3.1.2.50
Atape.driver 5.1.3.0
We get the same errors when running: audit library 3575lib
checklabel=barcode
I logged a call with IBM and this was their response:
I don't think it is an ADSM problem.
I think you can try the following to verify that barcode reader
had no hardware problem :
From AIX use tapeutil command when ADSM server is halted =>
option 1 - open device => /dev/smc0
" 14 - element inventory
You'll see all the library slots. Each entries is as follow :
Slot Address 34
Slot State ..................... Normal
ASC/ASCQ ....................... 0000
Media Present .................. Yes
Robot Access Allowed ........... Yes
Source Element Address Valid ... No
Media Inverted ................. No
Volume Tag ..................... xxxxxxx
Choose a slot where "media present = yes" and verify if
"volume tag option show a volume label" . If there is no label
in the "volume tag" field, then I think the barcode reader is
not in a good state.
You can also try another method,
from dir /usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin , start "lbtest"
option 1 - manual test
" 1 - set device special file => /dev/smc0
" 6 - open
" 12 - audit then option 2 scan barcode .
I tried the above 2 methods and the both worked fine.
It seems like the barcode reader works fine, but is net set up correctly
in ADSM.
I have read all the manuals, redbooks, redpieces, etc. on setting up
this library in ADSM and cannot find the problem.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Thanks
