Hi

We are using IBM c-format media.
AIX level: 4.3.3.0 - 02
ADSM level: adsm.server.rte 3.1.2.50
                    adsm.devices.rte 3.1.2.50

Atape.driver 5.1.3.0

We get the same errors when running: audit library 3575lib
checklabel=barcode

I logged a call with IBM and this was their response:

 I don't think it is an ADSM problem.
 I think you can try the following to verify that barcode reader
 had no hardware problem :

  From AIX use tapeutil command when ADSM server is halted =>
 option 1 - open device => /dev/smc0
  "     14 - element inventory
  You'll see all the library slots. Each entries is as follow :

 Slot Address 34

   Slot State ..................... Normal

   ASC/ASCQ ....................... 0000

    Media Present .................. Yes
    Robot Access Allowed ........... Yes
    Source Element Address Valid ... No
    Media Inverted ................. No
    Volume Tag ..................... xxxxxxx
  Choose a slot where "media present = yes" and verify if
  "volume tag option show a volume label" . If there is no label
  in the "volume tag" field, then I think the barcode reader is
  not in a good state.
You can also try another method,
  from dir /usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin , start "lbtest"
   option 1 - manual test

    "     1 - set device special file => /dev/smc0

    "     6 - open

    "    12 - audit then option 2 scan barcode .

I tried the above 2 methods and the both worked fine.

It seems like the barcode reader works fine, but is net set up correctly
in ADSM.
I have read all the manuals, redbooks, redpieces, etc. on setting up
this library in ADSM and cannot find the problem.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks
