I don't know the answers to either of the specific questions you raised, but I
would recommend that you include a tape to tape storage pool backup in your
daily cycle. This would provide complete offsite backups even if an unusually
large volume of incoming data triggered an unscheduled migration, of if
someone ran a manual backup at an unexpected time.
