Leaving all emotional ties and biases out, I would contend the decision
should be based on:

1. Backup and recovery requirements (including future predictions)
2. Cost of ownership vs. Return
3. Platform expertise of the *SM Administrator(s)

If AIX is the only platform to satisfy #1 there is your decision. If any
or some platforms can satisfy #1, then you have to look at #2 and #3, which
are somewhat interrelated. #2 is different for every environment, and the
final decision may not be based on the platform with the lowest TCO. It
could come down to how much more people are willing to pay for X% increase
in performance, etc.

Hi Ken,

give the answer to the following questions:

How easy can you change the HW of your Server?

How easy can you scale your HW?

How easy can you add HW to your Server?

How much information of the system do you get from your Server?

How easys can you automate your Server?

Is one of these questions in favor of NT?

I would stay away of NT and take anything else!!

Our little ADSM Server (9 GB DB / 60 GB Diskpool / 100 Servers / 1.5 TB
Data in 2 Robots on 500 Cartdriges) is well powered by OS/390.

Hello

Our ADSM server is currently an AIX F40 box. With an upgrade to TSM being
planned, the question comes up, should we continue to use AIX as the ADSM
server
platform or should we migrate to NT servers which are generally less
costly?

I'm very happy with the performance and robustness of ADSM on AIX, but
management is interested in minimizing server platforms.

What's the history of running the ADSM server on an NT platform? Is it as
robust and reliable as what I have on AIX? Are there known limitations
using
NT?

Thanks... Ken
