We've upgraded from ADSM to TSM and it was an automatic db upgrade.
We have the following messages within our install.trace file:

# ------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Prior version of server existed, don't know if upgradedb
# has been run. Do it anyway as it won't hurt if already done
# ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running upgradedb command, Current directory is /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin
ANR7800I DSMSERV generated at 16:19:10 on Aug 24 1999.

ANR0363I Database was automatically upgraded to the server program level.

Best wishes,
Kirsten
