Hello,

Has anybody ever tried to move a disk
containing a HSM file system from
one machine to another?

This is something we'd like to do.

We (AIX 4.2.1, client level 3.1.20.8)
tried to export a volumegroup
containg a HSM file system and import
again it on the same machine, just to
see if that would work.

We did an exportvg, removed the adsm client
and /etc/adsm, installed the client again,
and did an importvg. We added HSM to the
file system (after we had removed .SpaceMan)
and restored /etc/adsm.

Everything seems to work, 'dsmls' and
'dsmmigfs query' show the migrated files but
when we try to access a migrated file we get an error:

ANS9283K Attempting to access remote file.
ANS9285K Cannot complete remote file access.
cp: data00: I/O error

Maybe this just isn't possible and
we'll have to use a conventional
dsmc restore -restoremigstate=yes
to get our data to the other machine.

Regards,

Alexander
