Hi Yu,

When the SureStore turns on, it will do a self-test. Hardware
problems with the drive may be reported here, but not always. If
nothing is reported, there are still a number of other things to
check:

1) Making sure that the drive/SCSI chain is terminated correctly.
2) Make sure that the SCSI Address is not set to the same number as
any other device on the chain. The SCSI Address option switch is on
the back of the library.
3) Make sure the Autoloader Option Switch is set to the correct
number. What this number should be is determined by the type of
system it is attached to. This is 7 for all but HP Series 800 servers
and Sun systems. The Autoloader Option Switch is on the back of the
library.
4) Make sure the Configuration Switches (on the bottom of the
library) are set correctly. How they should be set is determined by
the type of system it is attached to.

Further information about #3 and #4 can be found in the User's guide
or at
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg51068.html

I don't have any experience with the HP SureStore's on *SM, so my
knowledge stops about here. However, I have used them extensively
with another product and found them to be notoriously unreliable -
about 1 of the 10 we have dies every 3-4 months....and that's in a
climate-controlled data center. If at all possible, I'd recommend
having a spare on-hand.

Hope this helps!

Hi *SMers:

Any one has experience working with autoloaders? This one has
a single drive and I had a hard time to define it as a scsi libr. (I/O
error). On the dev support list it looks like I should be able to do
that.

I know using 4mm DDS tape is not a good idea. But that's what I
have now... :(

Thank you for your help.
