virtual volumes vs offsite storage

Due to our 2 data centre configuration and historical reasons we have not
implemented copy storage pools on a large scale.
I have finally got the go ahead, but can't decide whether to go down the
traditional copy storage pool route and remove volumes from the library and
store them in a secure location or to implement virtual volumes (i.e.
electronic vaulting).
We have 2 data centres, both equipped with 3494s and a total of 21 3590
drives. Each data centre would backup its storage pools to virtual volumes
in the other data centre. We have a fast ATM network so bandwidth would be
not be too much of a problem. We receive about 1TB of backup data per
night.
What are the drawbacks of the virtual volume route? I understand that
reclamation actually sends the data across the network again. Also if both
data centres decided to reclaim at the same time could we end up with some
form of lock situation?. The more I think about it the more I dislike the
idea.
Any experiences?
Richard.

Virtual Volumes for Offsite Storage?

Hello All,
Is anyone in ADSM world using server-to-server communication or virtual
volumes to an offsite ADSM server for disaster recovery purposes? If so,
could you relate any problems/concerns/successes?
Thanks, Sean McNamara
