This would be a very risky strategy. Unix tends toward a fairly clear boundary
between application files and operating system files. Windows NT does not.
Installing a new application, installing a new release or service level of an
application, or even updating user preferences for an application, will
usually update the registry, which resides in the system partition. The first
two of the three actions will often add or change fonts and .dll files that
reside in the system partition. If you restore the system partition from an
NTBackup up to a week old and restore the other partitions from ADSM you are
likely to have problems with inconsistencies between the contents of the
system partition and the contents of the other partitions. It is not possible
to restore the system partition with NTBackup and then use ADSM to bring the
partition up to date; some of the critical files cannot be updated while the
operating system is using them.
