I had a couple different problems backing up NT Servers with Dave files on
those servers. All of my problems were solved by upgrading the client on
the NT Servers in question to TSM 3.7 and using "useunicodef yes" in the
client options files. My *SM Server is still at 3.1.2.

At the moment we have the following problem with our daily backup on our NT
fileservers.

Those NT servers are accessed mainly by NT Workstations, but also by MAC
Computers using DAVE up to Version 2.5 (makes NT Shares visible under MAC
OS)
Because of the different character spaces between NT and MAC the Clients
are
sometimes generating filenames and directorynames using non
allowed characters on the NT-side (Explorer shows this names using blocks,
under cmd you see "?" ) .

Now when ADSM reaches an illegal directory name it interrupts and says in
dsmerror.log

02/17/2000 23:48:31 TransWin32RC(): Win32 RC 123 from fioScanDirEntry():
FindFirstFile
02/17/2000 23:48:31 PrivIncrFileSpace: Received rc=167 from
fioGetDirEntries: \\hebe\d$ \USERHOME\BCB\DATEN\Einzelne Projekte\Ihr
Gutes Recht von A - Z\Knet?dt
02/17/2000 23:48:36 ANS1256E Cannot make file/directory
02/17/2000 23:48:36 ANS4028E Error processing '\\HEBE\D$': cannot create
file/directory entry
02/17/2000 23:48:37 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'GROUP22' failed. Return code
= 4.

Depending on the location/name of the share the backup nearly completes or
interrupts soon after beginning.
Can you tell ADSM to ignore those directories and to continue after this
error? Or do you have an idea to solve this situation?

Thanks for reply

Stefan Holzwarth
