Robert,
We have seen this before when the Exchange Server
machine runs out of RPC resources. The Exchange Agent
is getting an error from one of the Microsoft APIs
that is reading the data.
When this happens, there is no way to recover.
Microsoft tells us that you need to rerun the backup.

I run an incremental backup on an Microsoft Exchange server using the
AdsmConnect Agent Version 1, Release 1, Level 0.0 (***FIXTEST - Version
1.1.0.0B)
The backup of the DIRECTORY gone well but just after trying to backup the
IS got a communication error.
